Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Alternative Pop Rock.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Easily Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Paramore, Christina Aguilera, Pink, etc.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “MAD.”

A) I got sick of dating emotionally unavailable people. It was so exhausting! Dating is a tough game, especially these days. I wrote most of the song on a plane to Nashville when I was hung up on this dude, who basically got feelings, got scared and pulled back. I just thought, “This happens to SO many people. I’m gonna write about it.”

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) The chorus! “I’M MAD!” It’s pretty straight up and the line “you’re so full of sh*t, coz you won’t admit that you want me.” How many times have you wanted to say that to someone, right??

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The mannequins represent the emotionally unavailable people that don’t give you anything back, no matter how hard you try. The fact that they are plane, without any expression or color, in my opinion, speaks volumes about how most people dating become for a while, as everyone is scared of getting hurt and showing all of their colors, being vulnerable.

Q) What is your song-writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) It just depends really. Sometimes I’ve had a melody or a lyrical hook in my head and I’ve fit music around that. Other times I’ve wrote the music first and then fitted vocals around that.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I always co-produce. So, what I mean by that I describe the sounds, guitar tones, samples and type of beat I’d like the song to have to the producer. I let him do his thing with it and add his own flair. Then, we polish it up together. I like to be involved, as I usually hear the whole track in my head once I’ve finished a song.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Izzy Thomas performance?

A) Sincerity, passion, energy and volume!!

Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?

A) Yes! I hope to have my second EP out before the end of this year. Hopefully, this virus doesn’t stick around too long!

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Ah, That’s a tough one! You know what though, I’d love to collaborate with artists like Yung Blud, Jacob Banks and Imagine Dragons. I think they would definitely be on the same wave length.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) The artists I’ve mentioned above! Also, In This Moment, Bishop Briggs, Donna Missal, Finding Kate, Marisa And The Moths and Fleetwood Mac. I also really love Jacob Banks at the minute.

Q) You are a big advocate for Autism Awareness. Why is this cause so close to your heart?

A) I have a family member who has Asperger’s Syndrome. For me, it’s so important to raise more awareness about this so that people don’t go through the same bullying and terrible treatment my brother had from people who didn’t understand him whilst growing up.

Q) What should our readers know about being more compassionate and considerate for those who are autistic?

A) I would simply say try not to judge people straight away. The big thing about people who may be on the spectrum is they can seem socially awkward, even seen as “ignorant” sometimes when, in actual fact, they just find it hard communicating their feelings.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Social media is even more important now with the virus outbreak we have going on at the minute. Social media is allowing people to still have contact with the outside world whilst keeping safe indoors. It’s also a great way for promoting your music as an artist to people other than your existing fans when you want to expand your fan base.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you so much for all of your support and encouragement throughout the years. Keep supporting not only myself, but each other through this weird, weird time. Also, keep believing in the power of music and good will.
