Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) My sound is a combination of everything I listen to. I would say it’s a cross between Pop and R&B.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) John Mayer, LANY, Drake, 1975, Chance The Rapper

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “The Girl That’s Underneath.”

A) It’s about a few girls I’ve met in LA that think they’re too cool. They’re afraid to open up and show me the real her. Put your guard down and be a real human.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) All girls have that side of them where they’re just at home chilling, sweatpants on, no makeup, and that’s the side that I like the most. So, I think that people can appreciate when someone wants to get the real you and doesn’t care about all the other superficial things.

Q) How did you come to work with artist Jabbar Hakeem on this track?

A) Jabbar is a longtime friend of mine that I wanted on the track because I love his flow and his style. I was glad we finally got to work together on a track after knowing each other and talking about it for so long.

Q) I saw on Twitter you said “Drinkin About You” was your favorite song on the album. What makes it stand out so much to you?

A) I love the instrumental on that song. The jungle vibes really stick out to me. The lyrics are also some of my favorite lyrics. The song really just hits home with me, especially after getting out of a long relationship.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I usually start on the piano. I come up with a few cool chords, turn it into a beat and then tackle the melodies. I will make up melodies on the mic and sing the whole song throw with no words, just gibberish. Lastly, I will fill in all the gibberish with actual words.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) Nowadays I do all the production. I recently learned how to make my own beats and it’s the greatest thing I ever learned. I will carry that knowledge with me for the rest of my life.

Q) You are headed out soon on the Hit and Run Tour. What can fans expect from a live Jake Miller performance?

A) A lot of energy. There is always such a great vibe in the atmosphere during my shows. I’ve been working on a lot of new live techniques. I will babe playing A LOT of instruments on stage.

Q) What songs off your new album Silver Lining are you looking forward to performing live?

A) I am really looking forward to playing “Be Alright” and “Drinkin About You.”

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your album as a whole?

A) I hope they realize that everyone has their ups and downs. Good days and bad days. That’s what life is about. But you have to stay positive and understand that everything will always be alright.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I love NYC so much. Apparently, my dad does too because he crowd surfed at my last sold out show there.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I would love to collaborate with Selena Gomez.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I love LANY a lot. That’s all I’ve been listening to.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) That’s all I have. My fans are all I got. My job as an artist is to make sure I can make them happy and create music that will give them memories that will last a lifetime. The better I understand my fans, the easier it will be for me to make music they can relate to.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you so much for riding with me, whether you’ve been with me since 2011 or discovered me yesterday. This is just the beginning.
