Q) What are some of the recent projects you’ve got coming up?

A) 2020 ended up being a super productive year for me (guess that is what happens to songwriters in quarantine). So, in 2021, some of that new material that I worked on last year will be released.

My new Jonas Myrin single, “For The Ones We Love,” comes out worldwide on later this spring with a beautiful video directed by Se Oh. Other releases are with the talented Devon Gilfillian, “Thank Me Later (again),” which I co-write and got to produce. I’m also working on the music for a new movie. It has been a super rewarding and inspiring project to be part of!

Q) Growing up, who were some of your musical inspirations?

A) My dad was a massive Beatles and Stevie Wonder fan – so they ended up being a big influence growing up! For me, it’s always been more about “the song than what genre it is from. I think I’ve got a really eclectic taste and appreciation for different cultures and styles of music, but at the end of the day it’s always the lyric and melody that inspire and speak to me.

Q) You just recently released your song, “Just A Breath Away (Noel).” What inspired this beautiful song?

A) Thank you! I love Christmas! So, when I got asked to write the end title for the holiday movie The Three Wise Men, (from the directors of The Grinch and Secret Life of Pets) it was an instant yes! I wanted to write a song that would connect with the movie and the Christmas story of hope — a song that would remind people that no matter how far, no matter how long the road is, hope is just a breath away!

Q) What was it that drew you to the film The Three Wise Men that had you going, “I really want to do this?”

A) I think seeing the nativity story told from the perspective of the wise men felt like a really fresh vision and take of the Christmas story. And with such beautiful animation and poetic narration by the late Andy Griffith; I knew straight away this was a project that I wanted to be part of.

Q) Before going into the studio, how do you prepare for what you’re about to work on?

A) I try to prepare myself both physically and spiritually.  Making sure I get a good night’s rest, I try to set the tone for the day as soon as I wake up. I listen to some inspiring music, have a good coffee, maybe read something, reflect and just allow the time for my heart and soul to feel connected. Being a songwriter is like being a “wind catcher.” It’s all about being open and present in the moment, to listen and be aware of what’s happening in the room… and then try to catch that wind wherever it’s blowing and put it into a song.

Q) This is not your first holiday song. You co-wrote “At This Table” with Idina Menzel, which is such a beautiful song. What was it like to collaborate with her and create a song that hits home to so many?

A) It was such a joy to write “At This Table” with Idina. We wanted to write a song about inclusivity and acceptance. That everyone is welcome at the table. I’ve been getting literally thousands of messages from people around the world about this song, how it’s touched them and reminded them that they are seen, accepted and can come just as they are. That they are invited and welcome to the table where mercy has a seat.

Q) What message do you hope listeners take away from the music you create?

A) I heard a quote that said: “Music acts like a magic key, to which the most tightly closed heart opens.” And I love that; that music has the power to open a closed heart.  It’s a universal language that can reach deeper than words, it can uplift and unite us. I really hope my music can do just that to people.

Q) What would be one piece of advice you’d give to up-and-coming songwriters?

A) Don’t give up, keep writing and try to collaborative with other writers and musicians around you! Sometimes what you’re looking for is already inside and around you.

Q) You’re apart of social media, do you get excited about the feedback you get when you release new songs?

A) I love how social media has made the world feel so connected and so much smaller. The idea that I can release a song from my home studio in LA, and then have people everywhere from Japan, Europe to South America listening, commenting and reaching out sharing how a song spoke to them.  It’s so awesome and means so much.

Q) What would you like to say to fans and supporters of you and your music?

A) Thank you for being part of this journey – Let’s make 2021 the best year yet! New songs, new stories with new inspiring moments and memories.
