Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I’d say my sound is R&B soul mixed with a little hip-hop vibe. I was introduced to hip-hop, culture and Jane and Finch in Toronto by the legend King Lu of the Dream Warriors who taught me how to break dance and the element of graffiti within the culture.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) When I first found my voice, it was from finding the Tender Love album by Babyface and the song with Sunshine. I’ve also been heavily influenced by Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, James Brown and a lot of R&B from the 90s like Jodeci.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Call My Name.”

A) “Call My Name” was an idea that started out as an 80s throwback vibe that Eric Gordon and I were going to put together a short EP around. And with some professional help from DJ Mastermind, we decided to add some trap drums to it and make it a little bit more modern.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) The vibe of the record is a retro throwback feel that touches on the urgency of being loved and wanted by your partner. I think one of the ways fans connect to this song is relating to the need to give your all and have somebody else give them your all within the relationship.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) I feel like the video touches on the excitement of meeting somebody and then having a connection with them and wanting to take it all the way with that person.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) For me, my songwriting process changes quite a bit. It depends on the producers I’m working with, but for the most part I start with hearing it instrumental or creating the vibe of the production before coming up with melody or lyrics. But I also sometimes write lyrics down before having any music or melody and then fit them to a vibe that I find later on.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) As of late, I’ve been really hands-on with production of some of the records that I’ve been working on as far as knowing what I want the vibe of the record to be.

Q) Your last album IAMJRDN was a hit! Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future or are you focused on releasing singles for the moment?

A) Right now, I’m focusing on releasing singles and I haven’t decided if my next project will be a full-length album or an EP.

Q) You’re headed out on tour with Classified. Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) Some of my favorite spots to perform in Canada definitely Vancouver crowds always amazing there Kelona. I have a special spot for Kelona because when I went on my first tour with Classified. That’s where they showed me a lot of love.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) My dream collaboration right now would be to work on a song with Alicia Keys produced by Pharrell.

Q) What artist/musician are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’ve been recently listening to jazzy’s new EP, who is a new artist signed to Diddy’s Love Records. I’m really digging her sound and how it feels like 90s R&B.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) To all the fans that continue to support and follow me on my social media platforms listening to my music, I really wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart because this is not possible without any of you pushing me to continue to make music for you guys. So, I love you.
