Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Sophisticated music with mass appeal.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) My heroes are David Bowie, The Beach Boys, Roxy Music and basically all the artists that have influenced pop music over the last 60 years.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Take Me to the Moon.”

A) I wrote this song last year with Valeria Stoica, an artist from the Republic of Moldova. I fell under the spell of her voice and her universe and I decided to invite her to collaborate at my home in Switzerland. It was a few days before the first lockdown in Switzerland. We could feel something hovering over our heads and I think you can feel it in the song.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans will connect to?

A) I wanted to write about someone who decides to escape the earth in search of a better world. I think we all experience this feeling to different degrees in our lives. The hope of moving on to something better. I was probably influenced by David Bowie’s song “Space Oddity”.

Q) How did you come to work with Valeria Stoica on the track?

A) We were presented by label representatives. I am used to collaborating with different people. I like spontaneity and these studio sessions are done with a certain lightness. The result is often magical like with “Take Me to the Moon.”

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) When Hasan Kuyucu, the director of Turkish origin, came up with the original idea for the video clip I immediately got hooked. He simply said, “Guillaume, you are dead and Valeria you are full of life and we play with this contrast.” It fit perfectly with the music. There’s something very literal about it. It’s kind of my last will and testament. We knew that the clip was going to be made in Switzerland and it was the perfect setting. We started from the water level and we flew up to the mountain tops and the stars until we touched the moon.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I always start with my compositions then come the story and the lyrics. Most of the time I collaborate with singers. Once I have a good demo, I spend a lot of time perfecting it. I would say that I’m a pretty classical songwriter. You can take any of my songs and play them on guitar and sing and it works.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I produce my music. I like to collaborate, so I often call on different co-producers that I like. I think it’s good for my music because it gives me an outside point of view. But the vibe always comes from me.

Q) You’ve had three songs dominate in the Top 10 in 30 countries! How does that make you feel?

A) I am proud that my music appeals to such a level, especially since I don’t make any artistic concessions. What you hear really represents my vision and what I want to express.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) The goal is to release an EP DRAMA ACT 2 and then add acts. At the end this will form an album with three or four acts.

Q) You’ve toured in over 500 shows in over 25 locations. Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) Each place visited is particular, but I would say that there is a common point between all of them, the fans. Doing a music tour is not sightseeing. It’s playing for people who are there to listen to their favorite songs and you, as an artist, have to give them strong senses and make this moment unforgettable. I am grateful to have been able to play the music that is close to my heart in front of thousands of fans in places as diverse as Russia, Mexico and France.

Q) With concerts currently on hold, what do you miss most about being on stage?

A) Human contact. When you play, you have a direct connection with the audience, and you get direct feedback on your work. At the moment, everything is immaterial, digital and it’s not the same.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I multiply the collaborations. I chose to go where we don’t expect. I am very open and I favor spontaneous collaborations more than business arrangements.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I love Future Islands. I listen to their album over and over again. I love their songs, the timbre of the singer’s voice and their straightforward production style.

I love everything Damon Albarn does. His different projects are very varied, but you always recognize his style.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I like to tell about my adventure. I created a world with my fictional republic. And I find it interesting to oscillate between the fictional and how the fictional is created. If it can inspire people, I’m happy. This is also the goal of my new TV channel KADEBOSTANY TV. In these episodes I explain how I create my music, clips, etc. and people are very fond of it.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thanks for the support and spread the word, share the new single “Take Me to the Moon.”
