Q) Your new song released this past February called “Love Ain’t Fair.” What inspired you to write that song?

A) I wrote this song with a buddy of mine Tommy Cole.  We write relatively frequently, but this was one of our first songs together. I had just gotten back to NYC from spending time with my family and my sister and I had been talking about our past “relationships” from high school and college.  When Tommy came over, he started telling me a story that was so synonymous to what I had just been talking about and after an hour of just venting and sharing stories we wrote this song.

Q) What song off your new EP was your favorite to record and why?

A) Well, since we’re releasing them as singles throughout the year, not all of the songs are a hundred percent done. I love all of these songs so much for different reasons, but so far, my favorite is a song to record is called “Find Me” that is set to be released this summer!

Q) Why did you decide to release all five songs as love songs?

A) I set out to create this project/EP and just picked five songs that I had written over the course of the last year and change that I just absolutely loved.  Then, I realized they were all non-traditional love songs that sort of centered around this theme that love is many things – but it ain’t fair.  It sort of happened on its own, which makes it even more magical for me.

Q) You grew up with all kind of musical influences especially from your dad. What made you choose to pick “urban country” for your sound?

A) I didn’t really pick it. I just started creating music and then came up with the term.  I’m from NYC, so when entering this country music world, I just wanted to make sure that I stayed true to myself and authentic and my music told stories of what I’ve experienced and what I know. I didn’t grow up in the country with dirt roads and tailgates and pickup trucks, but I’ve experienced love and loss and heartbreak the same as anyone else. Country music tells a story and my songs tell my stories.

Q) When did you know becoming a singer/songwriter was what you were meant to do?

A) I’ve always loved singing and performing and I always knew I wanted to be on a stage.  But it wasn’t until about five years ago I started songwriting. And once I had a few songs under my belt, I threw a band together to play a show. After that first show feeling I knew this was it.

Q) Where do you draw your inspiration from when song writing?

A) My life. My friends’ lives. Every little thing around me.

Q) When you are up on stage and performing, do you have any rituals or superstitions that you have to do before you begin?

A) I like to have a moment to come together with my band. We take a shot together or put a hands in and just have a moment to come together as a group and then I always take one final moment for myself before I hit the stage.

Q) Speaking of performing, what was it like to perform at Madison Square Garden for the 2020 PBR Tour?

A) It was insane! I mean, it’s the garden! I really can’t even believe I got to share my music there.

Q) How did it feel hosting the “Urban Country Jam” this past February?

A) This was beyond incredible. I’m still trying to find words to articulate the evening.  It’s been a dream of mine to put an event together like this and it was such a supportive inclusive evening.

Q) What was your favorite moment from the event?

A) I loved bringing my dad onstage to perform my song “Pouring Rain.”  We wrote this song together and haven’t been on stage together in so many years and have never performed a song we wrote together.  I also loved playing a brand-new song called “New York City” acoustic. I played the guitar and it was super intimate and striped down and I hadn’t done anything like that before.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song and why?

A) Ah, I have so many artists I’d love to collaborate with. I think collaboration is so, so special.  A few would be Stevie Nicks, Grace Potter and Maren Morris.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and your music?

A) Thank you so much for letting me follow my dreams and do what I love every single day.  It really wouldn’t be possible without your love and support!! I hope to see you at a show soon and hug your necks!
