Q) Outside of music, what are the recent projects you have been working on?

A) In addition to being a singer/songwriter, I am also an actress. I currently have a regular role on “Days of Our Lives” as Claire Brady.

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) It’s in the pop category as far as how my music is structured, but I love taking influences from R&B and alternative music. I like my music to have a sort of “future-vintage” quality by taking older sounds from the 60s/70s and reinventing them.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I’m inspired by artists in almost every genre. Some of my all-time favorites are John Mayer, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Lana Del Rey and Kanye West. It’s a pretty wide range of people, but they all influence me in some way.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Just My Type.”

A) I wrote this song with Mick Coogan and Mike McGinnis and it was the first writing session I had ever had with them. I definitely think some of that new, fresh energy translated into the song. I was riffing over a baseline and we started saying all of these funny things that led us to the concept. “Just My Type” is about falling for every part of a person, all of their quirks included. You can end up redefining what you thought was “your type” and really surprising yourself.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) Everyone likes expensive feelings…

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) I don’t have a music video yet, but my lyric video was just released. I’m excited to make the actual music video and I definitely want it to capture the comedic side of the song.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) It’s usually easier for me to have it the other way around — to have a lyric or concept before the music. The melody and lyrics are the very important bones of a song. I like writing to guitar or piano chords, but I see track production as the thing to build around the song itself, like the clothing/accessories that a person wears. I’ll constantly voice memo ideas throughout the day, whether that’s just a verse lyric, melody or more of a concrete concept.

Q) Will there be a full EP or album in the near future?

A) Yes, many! I have so many songs that I’m excited about, and now it’s just a matter of choosing which ones to release. I’ll have an EP coming out soon.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Liv Keegan performance?

A) While writing music, I love thinking about what I want the atmosphere to feel like when I perform it to a live audience. I want my shows to bring people together in some way and I want it to be memorable.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I performed at the “Days of Our Lives 50th Anniversary Celebration” at the Hollywood Palladium and I would love to do that again. It was also a bit scary because I was singing in front of all my bosses and peers, but it was really a lot of fun. I played with a huge, incredible band and spent the rest of the night dancing with my coworkers who I’m lucky enough to call my friends.

I also loved performing at the Beverly Hilton with Chicago and David Foster, among others, for the Race to Erase MS Gala. I still can’t believe that happened, and it was for an awesome cause.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I would love to collaborate with John Mayer.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Lately, I’ve had Beyonce’s 4 album on repeat. A lot of the songs have a quality of timelessness which is something I always strive for when I’m writing. There’s also a lot to learn from just listening to her sing.

Q) You were nominated for a 2018 Daytime Emmy for “Days of Our Lives!” How did that make you feel?

A) I was shocked! I was hoping for a nom, but I definitely wasn’t expecting one at all.  Winning didn’t cross my mind much. I really was on “cloud 9’ for just being nominated, and I’m so thrilled for my “Days” family for winning five Emmys!! It could not have been a better night.

Q) What do you think it is about Claire Brady that has resonated with viewers?

A) Claire is like the devil on everyone’s shoulders! I think we all have a little “Claire Brady” inside of us, but most of us are better at not listening to it. She’s constantly manipulating situations to get her way as a result of her insecurity and jealousy. I think it’s interesting to watch the consequences of following those bad instincts. Also, maybe she makes people feel better about themselves after seeing the stunts she pulls.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Nowadays social media is the main way to connect with fans other than meeting them in real life at an event or a live performance. I love making personal connections with people through social media and hopefully seeing my music impact them in some way.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I would not be able to do what I do without you, and I cannot thank you enough for that. Also, new music coming soon so stay tuned!
