Q) What was the inspiration behind naming your upcoming album Choices?

A) The last eighteen months have been pretty life-changing for me, even before the pandemic! I’d hit a fork in the road of my life where I had to make some quite intense changes to take the right path. Making choices was a huge part of that, it seemed the only apt name.

Q) Tell us the story behind your song “Animal.”

A) I was listening to a “Bollywood Workout” playlist on Swhilst skipping and started to think about how much I love the rhythm and energy of bhangra music. I had the idea for the lead guitar melody during the workout! Lyrically, it’s about becoming whatever people say you are. Adapting to make positives out of the negatives.

Q) You also recently shot a music video for “Animal.” How did you develop the concept for the video?

A) I always have the idea for music videos in my mind’s eye. To me, “Animal” sounds like a ring walk song, so I decided a boxing inspired shoot was a cool way to go. I am a huge fan of women’s boxing and it was an amazing experience.

Q) I really love the song “Roots!” Which song was one of your favorites to write and record?

A) Thank you! I loved recording “Choices (Don’t Be Afraid).” The song means a lot to me and I really loved hearing it come together. The guitar on that track reminds me of easier times.

Q) I noticed that “Flowers” had a little bit of a “Fur Elise” flair to it. Was that intentional or happy coincidence?

A) Intentional! I’d been playing around with old melodies for a long time. I tried “Humpty Dumpty” before. [laughs] I like the idea of someone subconsciously recognizing a tune they’ve heard before in a modern song.

Q) As Choices is a lot about your own personal battles and working towards finding inner peace, what do you hope fans will take away from the album?

A) I hope they can hear the message of persistence and perseverance throughout the album. I’ve hit some pretty tough times before now and I’m sure there will be more, but for now, I have a really great way of moving forward and coping. I hope for people that are struggling it might offer a bit of hope for what’s to come.

Q) With Choices coming out on February 26th, is there a virtual listening party in the works?

A) There is! Keep tuned for that.

Q) What do you miss most about live performances during this time?

A) Everything. The road. The transport. The band. The venues. most of all, the audience.

Q) Which song has always been a fan favorite during live performances?

A) “Unsinkable” has always been a show favorite. I always encourage a singalong.

Q) Who would you consider your Top 3 musical influences?

A) Dolly Parton

Biggie

Don Maclean

Q) Who are you currently listening to?

A) Watsky, Marina and the Diamonds and loads of audiobooks!

Q) What would you like to share with fans & supporters of your music?

A) My greatest thanks and appreciation for their support during these times (and before!). Better times are on the way and I can’t wait for that.
