We start with a commercial about love from tech mogul Byron Gogol (Billy Magnussen), the founder of Gogol Tech. Aside from working on the latest in technology, he is also working on a way to integrate the minds of couples so they work together as one. Using his wife Hazel (Cristin Milioti) in his commercial, he promotes his latest advancement in technology: Made For Love. When we reach the end of the commercial, the camera then pans to outside of the Gogol cube and the ground opens up a trap door. Hazel has escaped the Gogol cube and we have yet to learn why, but for now her freedom is liberating as she throws up a middle finger to her home before turning away and walking through the desert to the road.

Twenty-four hours ago Hazel appeared blissful as Byron pleasures her first thing in the morning before his morning swim with Zelda the dolphin. During their sexy times the pleasure is measured and recorded. While Byron swims with Zelda, Hazel is lounging by the pool with her magazine as she notices a piece of glass on the ground. It spurs a flashback to a glass breaking but not before Byron interrupts Hazel to talk about the party later that night and check the latest in news about Gogol’s tablet release. Byron’s team Fiffany (Noma Dumezweni) and Herringbone (Dan Bakkedahl) enter the cube to update Byron on the latest specs, seemingly talking about Hazel’s unhappiness. Hazel does not hear them, but while Byron walks off with his group she gives him the finger behind her magazine. This seems to stop him in his tracks and make him turn, which confuses Hazel because he could not see it. Instead, she offers another smile and Byron leaves with his group.

We then flash back to Hazel walking in the desert and she, luckily, is picked up on the side of the road by Radio DJ El Perro (Ed Galvez). When she doesn’t register who she is, Hazel admits that she hasn’t seen the outside world in ten years. Back to yesterday morning Hazel decides to play a video game in the living room and is repeatedly interrupted to review her latest orgasm from that morning, Orgasm #3248. She rates it and then is promptly told it is time for her nap. Every part of her schedule is regulated and regimented inside the cube. Trying to nap, Hazel then starts thinking about her own childhood with her father Herbert (Ray Romano) and mother Lottie (Ione Skye). Brough back to the present by the arrival of Byron’s assistant Bennett (Caleb Foote), Hazel gets up to pick out glasses for the gathering that night and to confirm her orgasm rating on Byron’s behalf.

Back to the present sees El Perro has pulled over his van at his job and Hazel is in no mood to stop moving to get away. She immediately sees the door open to the local strip club and heads inside to find a change of clothes in the dressing room. She grabs a six-pack of soda instead of water and goes to change and clean up in the bathroom. As she practices saying her maiden name “Hazel Green” in the mirror, we flash back to the day before where Hazel is getting ready for the party at the cube. Outside she schmoozes with Byron’s workers before greeting Byron at the steps. When he leans in to kiss her, Byron admits to Hazel that he knows she has been lying to him. Hazel is confused by this statement but shakes it off as Byron addresses his group with the latest news: the Made For Love project is underway. He invites Hazel up to stand next to him, announcing that he and Hazel are going to be Users One starting tomorrow. Fiffany pulls Herringbone aside at the party and tells him that there’s no way this could work without killing them.

Flash-forward to the present where Hazel prepares to leave the strip club and realizes she has been found by Herringbone. Trying to coax her out of hiding, Herringbone attempts to tell her something important about the Made For Love chip but is stopped when Hazel axes his hand and flees the scene. She is able to get another ride and leaves the current town she is in. Flashing back to the night before, Hazel and Byron serenade their guests with a rendition of “Love Is Strange.” Still perturbed by the news of Made For Love, Hazel heads back home during the party. In the house she smashes the glass case containing a green dress and goes to dress in that outfit before heading out to the pool. Around her body she uses the metal intercoms to weight her down before taking the plunge. In the present, Hazel arrives at another town.

Walking through the town, Hazel goes to use a payphone but finds that it starts ringing before she can put the money in. Car alarms also start going off and Hazel realizes that she has been found. Fleeing the area as quick as she can walk, Hazel heads down the road but is stopped by a man named Donnie (Dontez James) who is on the phone with her husband. Acting as the messenger, Hazel starts to walk down the street while Donnie then tells her that she is already Made For Love. Hearing this, Hazel knows she has been chipped and flees the scene as quick as she can, cursing her husband the whole way. Byron is on his way to her but Hazel manages to make it to her father’s home, collapsing in the doorway of his bedroom when she sees him having relations with a life-sized doll.
