Netta Walker – All American: Homecoming
By: Kemberlie Spivey
Q) Congrats on the new season of “All American: Homecoming.” What can we expect for Kiesha that you’re excited for us to see?
A) Thank you so much! I’m excited for you all to see the dedication Keisha has, for her art and for her people.
Q) I truly enjoy seeing the friendship between Kiesha, Simone and Nathaniel. They are always there for each other and will protect one another. How would you describe their dynamic this season?
A) They’re still, and will forever be, the girls. You’ll be seeing their friendship blossom from their love for one another even more this season, I love their relationship.
Q) Kiesha has finally changed her major to dance this semester. We already have seen how hard her dance teacher can be on her. Are there any other challenges we can expect to visit with her taking on this new major?
A) This conservatory world is a lot scarier and cutthroat than Keisha expected it to be. She’ll be getting her first few doses of the real world through this change of major and I’m not sure she’s entirely ready for that yet.
Q) We saw in episode 3 that Zeke and Amara are secretly dating. What will be Keisha’s reaction to her dad and Amara?
A) Girl… Tune in.
Q) We dive a little bit into Kiesha’s Filipino background last season. Will we be able to see more of her Filipino family this season?
A) Hopefully!! I’m always trying to find ways to show our culture, even if it’s just pointing with my lips in a scene. But fingers crossed!
Q) Cam and Kiesha are in a good space right now with each other. Are there any obstacles that the couple may face this season?
A) Pursuing your dreams with someone is a really special but complicated thing. There’s always turbulence in trying to balance your passion and your love life, and you’ll see that stressor on their shoulders a bit this season. They’re so young and trying to figure out that balance isn’t easy.
Q) What is something unique that you like about Cam and Kiesha’s relationship?
A) How committed they are to understanding each other. I feel like they’re always ready to work through something together, even if feelings get hurt in the process. That type of love inspires me.
Q) What do you enjoy most about playing Kiesha?
A) I love how hard she rocks for her friends. Keisha always stands beside the people she loves – that loyalty is so fun to play with.
Q) What have you learned about yourself while playing this character?
A) I’ve learned to not take myself too seriously. Keisha is always so unserious until she needs to focus, and that playfulness has kept me on my toes a bit while exploring her. Levity is just as important as hard conversations to her, and my exploration of that balance in my real life has been inspired by Keisha.
Q) What do you think it is about “All American: Homecoming” that continues to make it such a fan-favorite series?
A) I think the struggles of college are timeless, and black American culture runs so deep – especially in athletics. If you grew up black and wanted to be the best you can be at something, this show is incredibly easy to relate to. And if you didn’t grow up, under those circumstances, these characters’ personalities and experiences are so human and real that you still relate to them. And thanks to the original All American we get to explore this vibrant and complicated chapter of life.
Q) Are there any other projects that you are currently working on?
A) Currently writing and learning more about filmmaking! I want to understand more about producing and directing, I’m interested in independent films these days. We’ll see what’s next!
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and the work you do?
A) You’re capable of anything you put your mind to, and don’t let anyone try to tell you otherwise.
