Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) My current sound is R&B influenced pop music. It’s passionate and emotive. I would say it’s good for turning up or down, depending on the mood!

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) India.Arie, Kehlani, SZA, Brandy, Ray Lamontagne, James Morrison…so many people

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I do my best work when I’m working with a guitarist or pianist because it allows me to really write and sing in a way that doesn’t feel constricted or limited. A good beat always helps too! I usually do melodies and words at the same time, sometimes starting with just melodies.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) It really depends on the song and the session. I definitely give my opinion! A lot of the time I’m also working off of splice loops, which I then show to producers. So technically, I’m a producer too. [wink]

Q) Your debut album is coming soon! What are some themes you explore on it?

A) This upcoming project is actually another EP. My debut album will be starting its rollout in the coming months, and it will be quite the surprise. This EP is really focused around the rise and fall of a situationship, and the arc of love when it isn’t too deep. It’s a heightened version of me, channeling that sexy and fun part of myself that isn’t always out to play!

Q) Which tracks challenged you the most creatively and which hold a special place in your heart?

A) “Riverside” was definitely the most fun to write. It just came out! “Not All Fun is Forever” was interesting for me because I co-produced it. It was right after a little situationship had ended, and I just went to my computer and created the track. I ended up sending it to my friend and frequent collaborator, JayCentury, who added more intense drums and really rounded it out. But it was started in my bedroom!

Q) Will there be a tour to promote the album, or will there be more of a focus on livestreams?

A) We’re going to do a small, small tour in four cities to promote the EP. The rest will be live-streamed and done through the internet.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from exploring Happy with Me?

A) I hope they feel empowered and distracted from their heartache! We all need to feel slightly delusional at times to help our hearts heal. It’s all a part of the process.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I would LOVE to write with SZA. I think we would have a hoot!

Q) You an active part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s so direct. There’s never been anything like it in the history of music. You don’t need to wait for a meet and greet or mail service – you can chat directly with your favorite artist, and I think that’s so cool! It’s definitely taxing to share your life on social media, but hey – I’m not complaining! I love my job.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) THANK YOU, so much, for supporting me and my music. Your constant love and support mean the world and I am grateful that we’re on this journey together. Here’s to lots more music and meeting in person soon!!
