Kara (Melissa Benoist) is giving a talk to Alex (Chyler Leigh), James (Mehcad Brooks), J’onn (David Harewood), Winn (Jeremy Jordan) and M’yrnn (Carl Lumbly) reminding them that the reason they are doing this is for the people. When she’s done talking Winn presents her with a microphone as they kick off Karaoke Night. Kara begins with her rapping skills that has everyone laughing at her antics. She spots Mon-El (Chris Wood) coming in and she smiles. When she finishes her song she passes the mic off to James as he gets up there shocking everyone with his voice. When it’s Alex’s turn she gets up there with a drink in hand and starts to emotionally sing “I Drove All Night,” which Kara asks who let Alex pick her own song. J’onn shows everyone is ability to sound sort of like a robot yet still get the song across as he gets M’yrnn up there who can surprisingly sing. James and Mon-El talk about Imra (Amy Jackson) and when Mon-El asks if he’s seeing anyone James tells him that there is somebody, but they haven’t figured out what they are doing yet. M’yrnn tells them that Karaoke isn’t for the weak. They start talking about how Alex hasn’t been invited to their apartment yet and that it’s been three months so it’s time for a house warming party. J’onn caves and says that they can do dinner. James calls Lena (Katie McGrath) who doesn’t answer so he leaves a voicemail.

Kara helps Winn pick out a song as he runs up to the stage to get ready Mon-El comes over and tries to talk to Kara. Before Winn starts to sing, he notices the news report happening on the death of his father so he drops the mic and leaves the bar. James follows him, but Winn tells him he’s okay. James stays with him anyway while Winn starts to rant.

As the group attending the funeral for Winn’s father, the officiant asks if anyone would like to speak and when Kara nods a no he lowers the casket into the ground as Winn forcefully throws dirt onto it. When he turns his back, his mother Mary (Laurie Metcalf) appears asking if he remembers her because it’s been a while. Winn tells his mother that she just missed him and she tells Winn that she’s not there for his father as she’s there for him. She tells him that he doesn’t understand it yet, but they are finally safe. As they talk, Kara and everyone hears the sounds of a jack in the box coming from the casket. Kara changes into Supergirl and covers Mary and Winn as the casket blows up.

At the DEO, Alex is checking out Mary for signs of a concussion and clearing her. As Winn and Kara walk away she asks Winn if he’s sure that his father is dead. Winn, who is still very upset, tells Kara he’s sure that he had the warden and two different medical examiners sign off on his body. When J’onn brings up the idea that someone was working with his father Winn yells at him that his father was a crazy man who did crazy things like mass murder. Alex comes in and tells him that Mary has a clean bill of health but wants to talk to him. Winn tells her that she’s had twenty years to talk to him. M’yrnn comes in asking J’onn for ten of his Earth dollars because the strike team tackled the delivery man when he entered the lobby and they wanted to tip him well. J’onn tells M’yrnn that they are having dinner and that they were going to cook. Alex takes M’yrnn and leads him back to the lobby telling him that tomato pie is her favorite hors d’oeuvres. Kara tells him to go with them and that the analysis will take hours and she’ll stay behind and wait. He askes her about the world killers and Kara tells him Alex has everything handled and to go eat. Mon-El shows up asking to talk to her as he tells her he owes her an apology for lying when they got together. She asks if he’s okay and he says that Imra lied to him about the Legend and that Brainy (Jesse Rath) knew about it, too. He asks if they can get a drink after everything with Winn is handled because he thinks there’s stuff she should know. She accepts telling him that is what friends are for.

Mary comes wondering down to the main floor talking to Winn. She tells him that he works with Supergirl so he should sit up and be proud. He tells her that she can’t be down there to which she says if anyone asks she’s looking for the bathroom. He points her to one and she tells him she tried that one, but it was closed for advanced interrogation. Winn leads his mother to an excluded area, so they could talk. She explains she had to leave because his father threatened Winn’s life and that if she went around him he would kill her son. Winn doesn’t believe a word she’s saying and tells her about being at the police station when he was little because he was home alone. He had been waiting for his mom to pick him up and that the police called her, but she never showed up. He tells her that his father doesn’t haunt him at night, but that she does. He states that he doesn’t need her excuses and that if he wants to keep her safe she should leave again. He opens the door and finds agents running around. There’s something in the sky writing a message for Mary, James asks Kara if it’s a Wicked Witch, which Kara equally confused says it’s flying monkeys that then come flying at them.

Kara tells James that she will take the big monkey and he can get the smaller ones. When she flies off he tells himself that he’s so happy he doesn’t work there as we see him run to help other DEO agents fight the monkeys. Winn and Mary run to get under the desk with James deflecting monkeys as Kara knocks the big monkey and goes back to help. Mary is about to be attacked for saving Winn, thankfully Kara comes in and saves the day. Everyone watches as she takes out the monkeys. Mary looks at Winn in disbelief while stating that this is his job.

Alex walks back into dinner and hangs up with Kara informing J’onn that everything is fine and Kara has it handled. They talk about the challenges that they may face due to who they are. M’yrnn goes to ask if Alex needs more wine but couldn’t get it out as J’onn goes to get it. Alex begins to think something maybe wrong with M’yrnn. Back at the DEO, Winn tells James he wishes Mary would just leave as James tells him that maybe Winn should talk to her. James explains when his dad died that his mother worked her butt off for him and his sister and he still blamed her for it. He tells Winn that he can’t change what happened, but his mother is here and it’s up to him to choose what to do with it. Kara and Mary have a talk about Winn and how he’s nothing like his father. Kara tells Mary that Winn is the one to keep them going. Mary says that her son works with Supergirl and she wishes he’d let her tell him how proud she is of him. When asked about the day to day how much of a pain in the ass flying monkeys are Kara tells her a two and asks if that makes her feel better. M’yrnn and Alex speak and he tells her he always wanted a granddaughter. Alex brings up Kim and Tonya to which M’yrnn has no memory of so Alex tells him about her grandmother and how she started forgetting things and eventually people. She thinks M’yrnn may be getting symptoms of it which M’yrnn already knew so he asks Alex to not say anything to J’onn. When Alex tells M’yrnn she won’t lie to J’onn if he asks her about it she has to leave as M’yrnn becomes upset. J’onn comes in asking him what happened.

Winn is trying to take apart one of the monkeys, which causes sparks to fly Mary watches from the door and tells Winn, “That is one angry monkey corpse.” Winn tells her about trying to get the plate off, but it keeps zapping her like Operation. Mary asks if she can try and manages to get the plate off the monkey. Mary asks if he remembers when they were going to Disneyland she tells Winn they were never going there that they were going to a domestic abuse shelter and his father ran them off the road and that it was the night he threatened his only son. J’onn comes in calling for Alex asking her if his father offended her and she tells him no, but he needs to talk to his father and that she had a lovely time. James tries to call Lena yet again only getting her voicemail. He leaves a message saying he called her assistant who told him she hasn’t checked in for a few days and asks her to give him a call. James comes in asking Mary and Winn if they figured out who is behind the attack when Mary tells him they found a million ways of not making a monkey. Mary pulls another plate off the monkey revealing a symbol and tells the guys she could use a break is going to rest. Mary goes downstairs and gets a gun from the armory and goes to find the person behind the attack. Mary is confronted with Jacqueline Nimball (Brooke Smith) who tells Mary that a gun is a dangerous toy but hers are worse.

Winn comes back to the command center asking if anyone has seen his mother. Just then they get a video message saying Jacqueline has his mother and that he better hurry. Kara, Mon-El and James go with Winn to meet Jacqueline. Jacqueline tells Mary about how she knows The Toy Man and how she is going to follow through with his plans since she broke the rules. Kara and Mon-El deal with the flying planes as James and Winn go find Mary. Kara gets trapped in plastic as Mon-El fights off a T-Rex. He gets the T-Rex to knock the packaging over letting Kara out as he brings it down. Winn runs to Mary who tells him turn around to run. Jacqueline holds them at gun point as Winn pushes the button that brought the flying monkey that knocked out the gun from her but didn’t help when she used a yoyo to choke him. Mary pushes the claw at Jacqueline as Winn cuts the strings to the yoyo.

The group go back to the bar for more Karaoke as Mon-El tries to sing a Kansas song. Winn and Mary talk about how Winn has become this force for good and that now she can leave because Winn doesn’t need her. He tells her he’d like for them to get to know each other while she’s there and signs them up for a song. Kara and Mon-El talk when Kara tells him she’s sorry he’s hurting but she can’t be the one he talks to and that it has to be between him and Imra. He tells her that Imra and Brainy came back for the third world killer about how she is their common enemy, so she has a lot to learn from them. J’onn and M’yrnn sit down for dinner as M’yrnn tells J’onn about everything that’s been happening with him. Winn and Mary sing “Take On Me” as Kara and Alex sing along with them when Alex spots J’onn coming in and goes to him knowing he now knows the truth and just hugs him. Lena finally calls James back telling him she and Sam (Odette Annable) have been swamped with paper work in a conference room only for her to have Sam in some form of hospital trying to figure out what’s wrong with her.
