Central City Colorado. Gabriel (Richard Speight Jr.) meets Norse demigod Fenrir Odinsbane (Sandy Robson) in an alley for a showdown archangel style. “Gabriel, I assume you’re not here to apologize.” “I vowed to do this honestly, no tricks, no gimmicks. Just mano e mano,” Gabriel tells Fenrir. Then, the fight begins. Gabriel is the victor, but is wounded in the process.

Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) are in a motel talking about their search for Gabriel. Rowena’s tracking spell indicated that the archangel could be either there or in Texas where Castiel plans to search. Sam wants to unpack reasoning they could be there for days, while Dean is against it as that’s time they don’t have. Dean’s not optimistic that they will find an archangel who doesn’t want to be found. There is a knock. Sam and Dean draw their guns and proceed to open the door. “Hey, fellas…looking for me?” a bloody Gabriel asks as he enters the room.

On the Apocalypse Earth, Jack (Alexander Calvert) gives Mary (Samantha Smith) an update on the latest battle.  Mary worries that with limited supplies and all the new people they’ve rescue, how are they going to feed everyone? A man named Jakob (Tarun Keram) approaches and tells Jack and Mary that the angels have left. “Why would they leave?” Jack asks.

Sam patches Gabriel up and Dean asks how Gabriel knew where they were. Gabriel tells the brothers that he felt their witch’s tracking spell the minute she laid it on him. He asks whether they have any of his grace left; Gabriel needs to recharge. Unfortunately, all Gabriel’s remaining grace was used. In that case, Gabriel prepares to leave but his injury prevents it. So, he decides to take a little rest.

Jack realizes that Michael and the other angels have left because maybe he (Michael) is afraid of him (Jack).

Two other Norse demigods Narfi (Michael Adamthwaite) and Sleipnir (Fletcher Donovan) find where Fenrir was killed along with archangel blood. Then, they barge in on Sam, Dean and Gabriel. “We’re here for the archangel,” Narfi demands. Sam and Dean fight the Norse demigods while Gabriel hides in the other room. But when it looks like the Winchesters will be defeated, Gabriel lends a hand to help killing Narfi but Sleipnir take off running.

Jack, Mary and Jakob find Kevin Tran (Osric Chau). He explains that he never wanted to betray by working for Michael. The only thing he believed in was science until things got bad and the people he loved including his mom started dying. Michael had promised that he would make the world better, but then he started killing people. And when Kevin failed to make the rift spell work, a furious Michael had him (Kevin) thrown in the dungeon.

Sam and Dean demand some answers from Gabriel.  The archangel tells them the story of how he met the Norse demigods after he faked his death. He thought he was living the high life; he had all the booze he could drink and entertainment with porn stars. That is until Fenrir, Narfi and Sleipnir sold him to Asmodeus to make a profit. Although roasting Asmodeus was satisfying for Gabriel, he wanted revenge against the Norse demigods for the years of torture he suffered at Asmodeus’ hands. Sam points out that if there were only three Norse demigods that Gabriel wanted to kill, why does he have four special blades. Gabriel tells Sam and Dean that the forth blade is for the architect of his torture; his numero uno he’s after “Their papa Loki.”

The freedom fighter strategize. Jack wants to go find Michael thinking that he can surprise the archangel and kill him. But Mary thinks that the map left behind for them to find could have been a trap. She reminds that Michael has already killed everyone that stood in his way so they really need to think this through. Mary asks Jack to give her a day.

“I thought Loki was you,” Dean says as Gabriel continues to tell the rest of his tale. “Remember when I said I went into witness protection, who do you think put me there.” Gabriel explains that he and Loki were once friends after Gabriel found Loki bounded in a cave and saved his life from a snake that was dripping venom into the Norse demigod’s eye. Loki’s father had put him in the cave after they had a spat. And because Gabriel was having his own family drama, Loki offered to help by letting Gabriel become him while he (Loki) went off the grid. Dean reminds that none of what Gabriel went through would have happened if he had helped them fight Lucifer and the Apocalypse. Gabriel reminds about the Casa Erotica video and the horsemen rings. The archangel tells the Winchesters that being tortured by Asmodeus every day is something you don’t forget so everyone involved in the pain he suffered will pay. “We all have our demons. Mine are here in this town,” Gabriel says. “You’re low on grace and Loki knows you’re coming,” Sam reminds. Dean pulls Sam aside and tells his brother that he knows what all this is about. Sam has his own demons he’s fighting and sees similarities between himself and Gabriel as Sam wants to kill Lucifer for the torture he endured at the hands of the archangel. Dean knows that revenge only ends one way, ugly. But Sam offers to help Gabriel if he helps them.

After cleaning up and changing out of his bloody clothes, Gabriel tells Sam and Dean where they will find Loki. He’s about ten minutes away.  Then, he (Gabriel) shows Dean his kill list. Fenrir and Narfi are already crossed off which leaves Loki and Sleipnir.

Mary continues to try to talk Jack out of running in blind by going after Michael.  She tells him how she was the same way with hunting but being like that is how you make mistakes. “I’ll come back for all of us,” Jack promises. “No you can’t go,” Kevin tells Jack and Mary. He explains that Michael told him to wait for Bobby and all of them to come back. Kevin says how Michael promised him (Kevin) that he’d go to Heaven and get to see his mom. “I’ve been to Heaven. Nothing’s real, it’s just memories,” Mary tells Kevin.  But after everything he’s done, Kevin just wants it all to end. He tells Jack that Michael doesn’t want to kill him (Jack). “He wants to break you.”  Tired of it all, Kevin puts his to his chest and the symbol he has drawn there. Jack shields Mary as Kevin explodes.

Gabriel tells Sam and Dean that they can take out the bodyguards and innocent bystanders, but he wants his face to be the last thing Loki sees. Gabriel kills Sleipnir. Sam realizes that Dean is gone. “The penthouse…he went after Loki.” “No, Loki is mine,” Gabriel says.

Dean meets Loki. The Norse demigod explains how Gabriel was responsible for the death of Loki’s father Odin, who should have never been at The Elysian Fields hotel and involved in all the end of the world drama. And Gabriel broke their deal of laying low and pretending to be Loki by showing up at that hotel and sealing his (Loki) father’s fate. Although Loki never got along with Odin, he was his father. “What wouldn’t you do for your father?” Loki asks Dean.  Dean attempts to stab Loki with Gabriel’s sword but only slices through a hologram. “Mess with the real Trickster, get a trick,” Loki taunts. Sam enters the room and Dean tells him that it is a hologram.

Loki and Gabriel have their confrontation. Loki reminds Gabriel that not only didn’t he keep his promise but he had the nerve to come back to him (Loki) again to ask for a favor. “You think I deserve to die for your spinelessness that my sons deserved to die?” Loki angrily asks Gabriel. Sam and Dean toss Gabriel his sword and the archangel uses it to stab Loki! “Of course you need someone to swoop in a save your pitiful ass. Face it my friend, you’re a joke, you’re a failure. You live for pleasure but stand for nothing. And in the end, that’s exactly what you’ll die for,” Loki tells Gabriel. “You first,” Gabriel says, pushing the sword into Loki’s chest deeper killing him.

Jack cradles Mary’s sleeping form as he surveys the room. They were the only two that survived.

Gabriel thanks Sam and Dean for helping him get his revenge against Loki. And as a deal is a deal, Gabriel will help the brothers with their Jack, Mary and Lucifer problem.

When Mary wakes up, Jack tells her that this is his fault. “We can prepare. We can fight, but sometimes things happen that we never see coming,” Mary reminds.

Back at the Men of Letters bunker, Sam asks Dean why he went after Loki without them (Sam and Gabriel). Sam says that Dean is treating him like he belongs back at the kids table. Dean tells Sam that he’s not going to apologize for protecting him. “’I don’t care what happens to me. But I do care what happens to my brother,” Dean says. “We’re going to that place together. We are going to save mom and Jack together. And if something happens, we will deal with it together. And if we die, we’ll do that together too,” Sam tells Dean.
