The Big Bang Theory – The Propagation Proposition

The episode begins with Bernadette (Melissa Rauch), Amy (Mayim Balik) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) having drinks. They wonder why they don’t do this more often and Amy says it is because Bernie has kids, she has Sheldon and Penny is always at the gym. Bernie makes a snarky remark and Penny says this is why they don’t do this more often.

 

Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) are at home playing a game and Sheldon brings up Raj’s breakup. The guys continue to take jabs at him.

 

At ladies night the girls are surprised with a bottle of champagne from a mystery man. Amy says she is happily married but will watch if they are making a promise. Penny assures her they won’t have to do anything. Bernie wonders if she goes to the gym for Leonard.

 

The guys are still playing the game and arguing while taking jabs at Raj.

 

It turns out that the champagne is from Penny’s ex Zach (Brian Thomas Smith). He is rich and married now and invites Penny and Leonard to come over to see his boat.

 

Penny tells Leonard about Zach. Leonard is surprised, but swears he isn’t jealous. He then gets the dice out so he and Penny can explore.

 

Raj goes to see Anu (Rati Gupta) and re-enacts the Love, Actually cue card scene to try and win her back.  She initially tells him to go away and lets him in because she doesn’t get the reference. He offers to let her watch it while he waits. The two begin bickering and she tells him she thinks he only wants to get married so that he isn’t the only single guy. He says she is kind of doing the same thing and they agree. They also still have no clue what to do.

 

Leonard tells Sheldon about Zach and admits it’s unfair Zach has the money and success he wants. Sheldon names other rich people he doesn’t know, which Leonard finds annoying. He tells Sheldon about the dinner and says if he doesn’t go that he will look jealous and petty. Sheldon thinks he wants to look confident.

 

Raj tells Bernie and Howard about Anu. Howard says she wasn’t right for him and Bernie tells him to be quiet because he will look like a jerk when they get back together. Bernie says Penny did that (being hurtful and truthful) when they broke up for a bit. Raj continues to whine about his situation.

 

Penny and Leonard spend time with Zach and his wife Marissa (Lindsay Kraft). They chat and bond a bit about books and life. Leonard wants to go out in the water on the boat, but Zach says it is choppy. Marissa also makes a joke about Zach always hitting his head on the boat doorframe.

 

Zach and Marissa say they want to have a baby, but Zach is infertile. Penny realizes what they are doing, and they ask Leonard to be the father. They think it is flattering and weird…and Zach says he won’t have to sleep with Marissa. They decided on Leonard because Zach thinks so highly of him. They decide to talk about it before making any decisions.

 

Raj is at home when his dad (Brian George) Skypes him to find out why he spied on Anu. They discuss the relationship and after his dad tells him to make her the bad guy, Raj finally admits he was wrong and should have trusted her. He says she deserves better and his dad says he is a good man who is also a dope. He wants him to remember his heart is in the right place and now it is time for him to figure out what he wants.

 

Penny tells the girls about the Zach situation. Leonard actually wants to do this, and the girls understand why, despite trying to support Penny. However, Amy says she would never do it because she is the only handmaiden in this tale.

 

Leonard tells Sheldon about the situation. Sheldon tells him that maybe Penny is upset because of the emotional toll it will have on him in the future.

 

Raj goes to see Anu again and tells her she deserves the best and that he could be the guy. Anu says they are not getting married, so Raj says they should start over. He uses another cue card and she finally agrees. She quips that she might talk about her weird ex.

 

The show ends with Penny telling Leonard that he has her blessing to be the baby’s father. She said she doesn’t need to have a say because he never had one when she decided she didn’t want kids.
