Tia Clayton (Alexis Floyd) tells Kat Edison (Aisha Dee) that the town hall couldn’t have gone better, and Kat talks to potential voters. Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens) talks to Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy) about her excitement about being a finalist for the design seminar. They watch Kat handle a voter like a professional, and Sutton jokingly pretends they’ve never met while complimenting her.

Kat tells them that Tia has been helping her learn the issues, but Sutton tells her she’s the one winning people over with her “Kat-ness” and Jane declares they need to commemorate the moment with a selfie. After taking the photo, they see people defacing one of Kat’s posters and chase them away.

Ryan Decker (Dan Jeannotte) brings a blindfolded Jane to the couch and she asks if this is a sex thing. He tells her to put her hands out and tells her this isn’t a sex thing. He takes the blindfold off and she is impressed by the finished copy of his book. Ryan tells her he wanted her to have the first copy and she declares they should celebrate, inviting him to Sutton’s dinner party. Ryan suggests they could celebrate now too and Jane comments that it is a sex thing as she straddles him.

Tia reads Kat the comments made by Congressman Reynolds’ on her campaign, referring to her as a girl and questioning her candidacy. She helps Kat prepare her response and Kat talks about the racism involved in the statistic of drug arrests. Tia declares they’ve earned the rest of the night off, calling her amazing and inspiring. Kat comments that she has to compliment her as her campaign manager, and Tia tells her she doesn’t.

Sutton tells Richard Hunter (Sam Page) that she doesn’t like jogging and stops to catch her breath. They talk about the dinner party, and Sutton promises it won’t end with her, Kat, and Jane in the bathtub like last time. Richard is excited for her to meet his friends as Sutton tries to keep all of the details about them straight.

Jane and Jacqueline Carlyle (Melora Hardin) interview Ingrid (Lyla Porter-Follows) about her experience on Pamela Dolan’s shoot, telling them that nobody helped her because everyone’s afraid of Dolan. She tells them nobody can know she’s talking to them and Jane and Jacqueline agree to keep her identity anonymous. Outside, Jacqueline compliments Jane and Jane emails her the interview recording.

As Jane arrives to work, Patrick Duchand (Peter Vack) criticizes her for missing the pitch meeting. Jane promises that it won’t happen again and offers to send her the pitches. Patrick tells her she can have whatever story Alex (Matt Ward) passes on and Jane protests. He tells her about beggars and choosers and tells her “Namaste.” Jane sends out an email telling Sutton and Kat to add Patrick saying “Namaste” to their drinking game.

Kat complains that she’s going to be the only single person at the dinner party and Sutton suggests she invite Tia. Kat insists Tia is her straight campaign manager but admits that she’s getting a vibe from Tia. She comments that she’s been logged out of Scarlet’s twitter as the rest of the staff experiences problems with the internet. Angie (Shyrley Rodriguez) confirms that she didn’t change the passwords of any accounts and Patrick announces that Scarlet has been hacked.

RJ Safford (Aidan Devine) tells the board that the hack was done by a group called the “Custodians of Truth” and that they want thirty million dollars in bitcoin. He tells them they have twenty-four hours to decide and suggests that an employee falling for a phishing email could have been the cause.

Kat, Jane, Sutton, Alex, Angie and Sage (Stephanie Costa) ask Andrew (Adam Capriolo) about the board meeting but he refuses to reveal what happened. Alex asks him to at least tell them the ransom amount, and Andrew admits it’s a lot. Angie questions if their emails will be published and Alex suggests it’s a real possibility.

In the fashion closet, Kat explains that she’s on hold with twitter and Jane declares this is a disaster for Safford. Kat reminds her that she trashes Patrick in emails regularly, but Jane argues that she vents. Sutton tells her that she goes for the jugular and leaves a paper trail.

Jane tells them she’s more worried about Ingrid’s identity being revealed after they promised to keep her identity anonymous. Jane expresses her concerns to Jacqueline and Jacqueline tells her the hacker is threatening to release their data. She assures she’s doing all she can and tells Jane to talk to Ingrid and ask her to give a name of someone at the shoot who can verify her story.

Kat tells Patrick she’s still on hold with twitter and he tells her he’s answering questions about the hack on Twitter. She reminds him they’re not supposed to tweet anything without approval, but he insists he has authority as head of digital. Kat agrees to move her campaign meeting to Scarlet and texts Tia.

Sutton expresses her worry that she hasn’t heard from the seminar, and Richard assures her she deserves to get in. Richard admits that he won’t be able to leave the office in time to prepare dinner and Sutton offers to cook. He promises to forward her an email with Quinn’s (Melissa Paulson) dietary restrictions, but Sutton sees Richard discussing buying a house in Connecticut in the email thread.

Ingrid is worried about her name being released in the hack and Jane asks for the name of someone who can verify her story. However, Ingrid questions why she would put someone else in danger. Kat compliments Tia on the campaign website as Tia walks her through the layout. Kat invites her to the dinner party, but Tia tells her she has a date with a guy.

Kat tells Jane that Tia is straight, but Jane points out they thought she was straight until recently. Sutton asks if either of them can cook, and Kat tells her she can while Jane offers to toss the salad. As they walk through the farmer’s market, Sutton shows them the email chain and they are in disbelief that Richard is trying to get her to move to Connecticut. Jane remarks that it’s a long thread, suggesting that Richard is serious about moving. Sutton suggests that Richard would have talked to her if he was serious and Kat gets a text from Tia telling her she’d rather hang out with her.

As Kat prepares dinner, Sutton greets Quinn, Dev (Mark Ghanime) and Michelle (Helena Marie) and makes small talk with them. As Sutton serves appetizers, Quinn comments about Sutton’s constant looking at her phone. Sutton explains that she’s waiting to hear from the seminar and Jane and Kat bring up the subject of Connecticut.

Richard’s friends explain that as you get older, you start looking at things like school districts. Jane defends the New York lifestyle and Sutton asks her and Kat to calm down as she pulls them aside. Richard texts Sutton that he’s on his way and Patrick asks him about his decision to pay the ransom as they wait for their cars. Richard insists he decided to protect the employees while Patrick tells him he’s in trouble with Safford for his tweets, asking if he has any plans.

As Kat and Tia talk about the campaign, Jane is in disbelief that Richard has brought Patrick to the party. Jane downs her wine as Richard apologizes for being late. Sutton asks to talk to him and confronts him about the emails. Sutton takes his expression as confirmation that he’s serious about moving to Connecticut and tells him he thought they’d be living here longer. Richard tells her he’s thinking of their future and Sutton tells him he should be talking about their future with her.

Sutton pours out drinks in the bathroom as she, Jane, and Kat vent about the evening. As Sutton prepares to go back out, Ryan texts Jane that he won’t be able to make it. Richard’s friends tell Sutton stories from college. Tia compliments Kat’s cooking as Patrick rants about the decision to pay the ransom and Jane continues drinking.

Patrick is surprised that Jane doesn’t have a take on the hack, and Jane downs another drink. She angrily tells him about the drinking game about him they’ve established via email as well as other things that can hurt him, her, and other people. Jane tells him that everyone was freaking out while he was in the board meeting and that is her take.

Sutton takes a call and tells everyone she’s been accepted into the seminar. Richard toasts to Sutton, and Sutton tells everyone how excited she is. Quinn remarks that she once had a phase where she planned to open a bakery, and Sutton tells her this is a serious career move for her. Sutton tells Richard’s friends that she loves New York, designing, and the life she’s building there. Michelle starts breaking down about her problems and awkward silence ensues.

In the bathroom, Sutton blames herself for making Michelle cry and Kat tells Sutton to stop drinking and Jane to apologize to Patrick. Kat suggests they go back out, while Jane suggests they all climb into the bathtub. Sutton tells them she promised Richard that wouldn’t happen again, and she and Jane turn the conversation to Kat’s feelings for Tia. Kat admits she’s confused, but Jane points out it’s huge that this is the first person she’s liked since Adena.

They return to find Tia talking to Richard’s friends about donating to the campaign. Sutton suggests they go to the deck for cocktails and Richard agrees. Kat asks Tia if she wants to leave and Tia tries to contact Michelle about donating as they wait for a cab. Kat tells her she didn’t invite her as her campaign manager, pausing before admitting she invited her as her friend or more. She admits she’s wondered if she’s flirting with her, but Tia tells her she got the wrong impression. Kat declares that she’s glad they cleared that up, but awkward silence ensues.

Sutton apologizes to Quinn and Michelle, but they admit that they were responsible for what happened and agree to tell Sutton stories about Richard. Jane finds Patrick on the deck and apologizes for being out of line. Patrick admits she has a right to her opinion but tells her it’s not easy to be the boss. He tells her he likes the drinking game pitch but tells her to plus it up. Jane drinks at the phrase, and he realizes that it’s part of the game.

Kat looks at her website and sees that Quinn has donated two thousand dollars to her campaign as Jane works on her article about the hack. Jane gets a call and is thrilled by the good news. Ryan comes home and Jane tells him that Ingrid has agreed to send her the list of the crew from the shoot where she was injured. Ryan is happy for her and tells her that the publisher suggested he go on a book tour. She is happy for him and tells him about the party.

Richard tells Sutton that he cleaned up the party and Sutton apologizes. He admits he should have talked to her and admits his looking at Connecticut is due to his desire to have a family. Sutton tells him she’s not ready for that for a while, and that she’s starting her career in New York. Richard assures her that he’s not going anywhere, and they kiss.
