The Home Team – She’s Quiet

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) A bunch of dudes in their late 20s who never got over Panic! at the Disco and Fall Out Boy.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) We all grew up listening to and playing metal/hardcore, so musically we draw a lot of influence from heavier bands. Instrumentally I think that’s super apparent in our music, maybe not so much vocally. Bands like Slayer, Bury Your Dead, and The Black Dahlia Murder definitely influence us as musicians, but as a band we’re heavily influenced by a lot of the mid 00’s scene (Jimmy Eat World, Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco).

Q) What made you decide to put out an acoustic version of “She’s Quiet?”

A) Being that “She’s Quiet” is our most popular song it kind of just made sense! Also, we had a few tours where we played an acoustic rendition of it before it was ever even released, since the “full-band” version wasn’t completely prepared and we ended up getting a ton of compliments on the way it sounded. Plus, we feel like it’s the most heartfelt song on the album and that stripping it down to its core would give listeners a chance to hear it in a completely different setting, since the original is so high-energy.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) It’s hard to imagine that any of our listeners haven’t gone through some infatuation phase of a relationship, wanting so badly to give your all to a person even though everything is so fresh. Furthermore, the song is about finding out how to love again after a traumatic romantic experience, which we think is something that affects anybody pretty drastically.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Typically, the song writing process begins with any one member, whether it either of our guitarists, our bassist or our vocalist. They take their time in constructing a demo that they like before pitching it to everyone else. After that, we get together as a band and decide what needs to change and what is strong about the song. Typically, Brian [Butcher] (vocalist) likes to write to music that’s already been put down, but we have a couple of new songs in which he came up with a couple of catchy vocal parts and then wrote the music around them. This is definitely a new format that he’s experimenting with, but we’re very excited about how it sounds so far.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) A big one! We did out last record with Casey Bates (Emarosa, Portugal the Man, Pierce the Veil). And although he was an absolute legend to work with, we still made a point to make sure everything on the record sounded the way wanted it to. For future material, we are actually moving forward with even more production value on our recordings, which we ourselves will inevitably spearhead.

Q) The band is currently on a headlining tour. What can fans expect from a live The Home Team performance?

A) High energy, lots of crowd involvement and a ton of karate moves on stage.

Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?

A) Our current plan is to either release a series of singles or an EP. Our sound will be changing quite a bit (don’t worry OG THT fans!) in the next little while and we want to see how the new sound is received before we commit to an entire LP.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) We have played at a venue called WhySound in Logan, UT about a thousand times, which seems pretty random, but every time we play we have a very consistent fan base that comes out to support us and we couldn’t be more grateful. WhySound almost closed down not too long ago but reopened under new management recently and we had one of our favorite shows there on this tour. Beyond that, anywhere we haven’t played before! We love getting to know different venues around the country.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Brendon Urie or Lynn Gunn

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Technology by Don Broco. We’ve been blasting this album since it came out and we can’t get enough. Their vibe operates as such an interesting way to become relevant immediately and also make music that has tons of replay value. Don’t be surprised if some influence from their record shows up in ours!

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Fans are everything for artists. Social media has made it so that fans can interact with us on a daily basis and get insights into our daily lives. Being able to interact with fans on the band pages (and on our own) helps all of us feel more connected with fans so that when we’re out on tour it feels like we’re just hanging out with friends that we talk to all the time. That personal connection helps us feel at home when we’re on the road.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you so much for listening to our band and helping support us in doing what we love. Come hangout at a show!
