The Weeks – Two Moons

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Our sound just comes from the rock music we grew up listening to. We try to do what we love and what sounds good to us when we’re writing and recording. We hope people feel the same way.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) We love The Replacements, Thin Lizzy and The Band. But, honestly, we listen to a bit of everything.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Paper Mache Houses.”

A) It’s about life on the road, taking the world one day at a time and just when you think you have a grasp on it you realize you don’t. I heard two people fighting in a hotel room next to ours on tour. I mean it was a real knockdown, drag out fight. But it was so late, I was so tired and they were both making pretty good points. It’s like the feeling of being lost and knowing exactly where you are at the same time.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) Hopefully, it’s because they relate to my feelings, but I try not to dictate what it means to someone too much. If you are willing to take time out of your day and listen, and you feel anything from that, then I have done my job.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) Our guitar player Sam [Williams] had a cool idea for the visuals of the video. We filmed it in our basement and he put everything together. There wasn’t so much a message tied to the video, more so an opportunity to flex our creative muscles.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I write all the lyrics, sometimes before the music, sometimes after. The band comes to me with music already and I work from there. It all changes song to song. I just try to write as much as I can and come to practice with something ready.

Q) Eric Masse helped produce your new album, but how much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) Eric is good at not pushing you too far in a direction you don’t want to go. He made things fun but productive. It really helps when you find someone you click with so well in the studio.

Q) What can fans expect from a live The Weeks performance?

A) Our live show is where we shine. We are always on the road. Rowdy, loud, sweaty and maybe a little drunk. We try to make it a party.

Q) With your album Two Moons what are some themes that will be explored on it?

A) The album actually came out in September. There are a couple of different themes—mainly things getting better and making it through something you didn’t think you could. Honestly, there are some party songs thrown in for flavor. I tried to cover some heavy topics, but still create something that was fun and accessible to listen to.

Q) What songs off Two Moons are you loving performing live?

A) A couple of my favorites are “Scared of the Sunshine” and “Too Much Light.”

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from checking out your new album as a whole?

A) I hope they can be happy in spite of “it all” and know the world is not such a bad place all the time, regardless of how it seems.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I love playing Mississippi because it’s where we grew up and I feel like it does not get much love from touring bands. Also, just in general, anytime I play away from home I still feel wonderstruck. It is remarkable to me that I am from a town called Florence, MS with only about four thousand people in it. So, when I leave and people know us across the country and they are not one of those four thousand people, it feels wonderful to be seen.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Anything hip hop just because it’s so far out of our realm. Maybe Big Krit. He’s a rapper who is originally from Mississippi.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Rodger Miller. The way Miller arranges words is astonishing. Plus, it’s pretty cheerful and he always chills me out.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I don’t do much on social media, mainly because I am not very good at it. I leave that beast to the rest of the band.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) To all of our fans and supporters, I would like to say keep doing what you are doing. Be kind, pay for original music and support artists. Listen to Two Moons, call your mom, and last, but certainly not least, we are The Weeks and we love you. – Cyle
