Each week I’ll be picking the best drama, comedy or reality TV and sci-fi/fantasy moments from the shows of the prior week. They may sometimes be equipped with some of your favorite ships or tear-jerking moments. So, keep reading if you are still not over what happened on your favorite TV show this week!

Drama: Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker, “The Fight of the Century” – A comeback!

When Madam C. J. Walker (Octavia Spencer) tells Addie (Carmen Ejogo) that she’s going to replace her burning house/workspace with a factory, you could feel the power behind every word. Octavia Spencer’s performance in this series is my favorite part of a show that I feel had some fluidity and placement issues. I love that from the beginning Madam was always outspoken about what she wanted, especially in that final scene. What were your thoughts on the limited series?

Comedy/Reality TV: Twenties, “You Know How I Like It” – This is the dream!

Nia (Gabrielle Graham) learned the hard things about wanting to be an actor. When she shows up to a web series audition she gets nervous about it. That quickly changes when two other girls tell her that they already know how bad the production will be, but they do it because they need to sothat they can get into the business. They made up many relevant and disheartening points— like how even though they know once a lighter skinned girl is seen they’ll probably not get chosen. It’s the sad truth of many casting and the women didn’t say anything that hasn’t been heard before. I hope Nia finds her place in the acting world. But hey, “This is the dream!”

Sci-fi/Fantasy: Motherland: Fort Salem, “Say the Words” – An unlikely group.

Tally (Jessica Sutton), Abigail (Ashley Nicole Williams) and Raelle (Taylor Hickson) definitely seem like an unlikely group, but I can already tell that I’m going to love seeing what they bring to the table. Their first night together showcased just how easily they can work together just as much as they can be a mismatched group of girls. These three are very strong and confident in their own ways, which I love to see even with a character who is more reserved than the others. I look forward to seeing where this season will go.
