Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I’d call it pop but with a lot of R&B influence

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Definitely Charlie Puth, Lauv, LANY and basically the entirety of the 80s decade. [laughs]

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Think of Me.”

A) So, I was in a pretty long-term relationship with this girl, but we eventually broke up. We were later both invited to a mutual friends’ birthday party where I found out she had already started dating someone within like less than a month of us being a part. That night I went out to my car and started the beginnings of what would be this song.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think it’s the reliability of wanting to know what’s going on inside someone else’s head. Like if like me you just broke up, if you just started dating someone or even if it’s just a simple crush. You’ll always be asking yourself. “I wonder if they think of me

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) Super excited for the video to come out in July! It basically follows me going thru the heart break I felt finding out that news. It was directed by an up and coming director Seth Lee and I had a great time working with him.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I generally do it both at the same time. The musical inspiration can be anything though. From a phrase I like, to a melody I heard in my head, anything.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) Oh, I am in every session. If I’m not producing the track solely by myself, I’m working with someone who understands my vision like my friend Devin Kennedy who cowrote and coproduced this track with me.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) Oh gosh! I hope so! [laughs] A whole lot of things are super up in the air right now with COVID and everything, but I would love to do that in the future!

Q) It was great seeing you on “American Idol” and congrats making it to the Top 24! What did you personally take away or learn from your time on the show?

A) I think the biggest thing, as cheesy as it sounds, was learning the importance of just being yourself. There were so many talented people on there, it was just so hard to differentiate yourself. So, all I could do was just be me.

Q) We love that you’re so committed to bring love and light to Texas Children’s Hospital. Why is this cause so close to your heart?

A) Well, my sister has a medical condition that she had to visit a lot of hospitals for when she was younger. Me being the youngest in my family, I had to go with my mom and sister to a lot of these medical visits growing up. And I very much remember how difficult it was there just to keep yourself from going crazy bored in an environment like that I’m in a very fortunate position to be living the life that I live so I want to do everything that I can to give back.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Either Charlie Puth or Lauv. They’re two artists that produce their own music and I love working with talented songwriter/producers. And their sound has honestly shaped me into the artist I am today.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) For a while it was Pony by Rex Orange county because just about every song on there absolutely SLAPS. But I’ve been listening a lot to Jeremy Zucker’s recent album Love is Not Dying. It just all flows so, so well. It really feels like a concept album to me and I will just put it on when I have a long drive and just go through all the emotions that he’s singing about with him. He also does some really cool stuff with odd time signatures where one song is in 4/7 and I love seeing weird stuff like that done by such a heavy pop artists.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Oh, they’re my entire reason I have a career. If they didn’t support me in the way that they do I do not know where I’d be. I’m literally so incredibly grateful for them. They’re also all pretty funny and roast me all the time! [laughs]

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Honestly, I do not think I could ever thank them enough. Music is just the absolute dream for me. And having people who believe in me and like my songs is absolutely everything to me.
