WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

A Love Like This is a brand-new comedy web series about finding and sustaining a love life during a global pandemic. Everyone knows relationships are never easy and for Tatiana (Nimo Purcell) and Benjamin (Amaru Davis) the world just made it that much harder.

In the first episode Tatiana goes into personally uncharted territory by entering the realm of online dating. Unfortunately, it doesn’t go nearly as well as she hopes. Right when she’s about to give it all up, she meets Benjamin, the only dating prospect with actual potential. The series goes on to explore their newfound relationship and the struggles they face because they can’t actually see one another.

Purcell is extremely charming in her role. As Tatiana navigates the world of online dating with the help of those around her, I started to feel like one of her friends. Watching her film a variety of introduction videos in search of the perfect choice for her profile and look through her closet for a virtual date night outfit made me feel like I was on Facetime with her. The series really uses the online aspect to their advantage, as it made it feel much more personal and organic for me.

The second episode shows off the chemistry between Purcell and Davis, as their characters go on a string of dates to get to know each other. They eat together, work out together, try and force themselves to stay up late to keep talking and discuss absolutely everything. The episode is filled with genuine moments that give you that spark. I was especially amused by their movie date when Tatiana shames Benjamin for never watching “Scandal” (as she should) and he questions how the other drivers explained Keanu Reeve’s disastrous bus ride in Speed.

There are currently two episodes available with new episodes dropping every Friday. There’s also a behind the scenes series, Behind the Love, where they do a deep dive into each episode. I’m a huge fan of web series that offer extra insight into their world in any fashion and watching creator Thomas Times discuss the episode with the actors did not disappoint. A Love Like This is relatable for anyone who’s been in a long-distance relationship, friendship or who has dove headfirst into purely virtual dating during the pandemic. If you’re in the mood for a sweet new comedy romance, give this new series a watch.
