WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

The Adventures of Wig is a brand-new web series and the title alone tells you exactly what to expect. The show follows the life of a wig, appropriately named “Wig,” from delivery at a doorstep to beauty schools and events and all the daily life things in between. Wig, voiced by voiceover professional Luanna Helena, is bursting with personality and the series breathes life into this inanimate accessory in an incredibly fascinating and engaging way.

I can genuinely say I’ve never seen anything close to a wig having thoughts and emotions as the basis for a web series. When it comes to shows, for me, the more unique it is the better and The Adventure of Wig didn’t disappoint. The story lies in the voiceover (it’s similar to an audio series) with the episodes being read as static pictures linger on the screen. The visuals help shape the story, but it’s Luanna’s expert line delivery that really sells it. I could listen to her voice forever! It’s soothing while still being theatrical and her comforting tone made it reminiscent of being read a bedtime story. I found myself hanging on her every word and feeling for Wig as if she was a friend of mine. In the very first episode when Wig was put in a chest and feared she’d be locked up in storage for the rest of her days, I was rooting for her. Thankfully, she wasn’t kept away collecting dust and we got to follow her through this journey.

There are currently six episodes available, with new episodes dropping every Wednesday through the end of March. They vary in length, but they’re mostly short and sweet, perfect for a peaceful late night television binge. Each episode takes Wig on a new adventure and Luanna teased the fourth would pull on some heart strings and she was right. I’m expecting some more fun and emotional stuff from the episodes to follow and can’t wait to see where Wig ends up next and with who.

If you’ve ever used a wig in your life, The Adventures of Wig is an interesting take on what your cherished headpiece might be thinking and feeling. But, honestly, I think it’s a show that can appeal to anyone. It’s different, it’s entertaining in its simplicity and if Luanna could get me to develop an attachment to a wig of all things, I say it’s definitely worth a watch.
