The Season Premiere picks up where the Season Finale left off right after Rebecca (Rachel Bloom) told the court she was pleading responsible, meaning she wanted to take responsibility for her actions even if she would be going to prison. Now, Rebecca was in the judge’s chamber with Paula (Donna Lynne Champlin) along with the D.A. They were waiting for Nathaniel (Scott Michael Foster), who bolted out of the courtroom the minute he heard Rebecca go against his advice as her attorney and not submit the temporary insanity plea. Rebecca was adamant and wanted the judge to accept her guilty plea. Darryl (Pete Gardner) entered the judge’s chamber and announced that Nathaniel left the building. Since she no longer had a lawyer, both Paula and Darryl offered to be Rebecca’s attorneys even though Darryl is in real estate law and Paula hasn’t officially graduated yet. The judge didn’t want to accept Rebecca’s plea as it wasn’t actually a plea but a longwinded statement to Paula that also provided irrelevant facts. Plus, Rebecca and her lawyer Nathaniel Plimpton (who was also in real estate) were involved in a romantic relationship, which may or may not cross legal or ethical boundries. Rebecca told the judge that she wanted to do penance if not for this crime but for all her previous other ones. So be it…The judge sentenced Rebecca to six weeks in county jail and afterward there would be a new hearing to determine her fate. As Ms. Bunch is taken to prison, she kept chanting “I deserve this.”

Meanwhile, Nathaniel paid $100,000 to go on a wildness survival retreat to help him get over the mess that is his relationship with Rebecca. George (Danny Jolles) thought that Nathaniel should just talk to Rebecca.

Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III) wondered if he could have a mental disorder like Rebecca.

Nathaniel arrived at the location of the wilderness retreat.

At L.A. County Jail, Rebecca’s cellmate Nicky (Britney Young) was tired of Ms. Bunch’s chant of “I deserve this” and warned if she didn’t shut up she’d (Nicky) punch her in the throat. The next day, Rebecca was interested in the theater group at the jail.  Paula came to see her friend in jail and told Rebecca that all she (Paula) need to do was to prove that Trent (Paul Welsh) was stalking her in order to get Rebecca released.  But Rebecca didn’t want to leave; she wanted to do penance.  She told Paula about the theater group and felt it’s perfect for her. Later, Rebecca and the female prisoners performed a prison number in which she encouraged the ladies to tell their stories.  One woman got three years for stealing a sweater because she had no heat in her apartment and was cold. Another was in jail for murder because she was texting her daughter while driving and hit a teenager. Then Rebecca told her story, which ended with her wanting to be in jail to makes a statement. The other prisoners were confused that she chose to be in prison when she didn’t have to.

Josh came to Heather (Vella Lovell) and Hector (Erick Lopez) and told them of all the disorders he suffered which he discovered from taking a quiz. Heather reminded that some people actual suffered from those illnesses and Josh was treating it like he’s going personality shopping.

Nathaniel was surprised when George showed up at the confidential location of the wilderness trip. George tells Nathaniel that he got the location because the place couldn’t afford another lawsuit. Nathaniel wanted George to leave, but George tells him that he intends to stick to Plimpton.

Paula, Valencia (Gabrielle Ruiz) and Heather come to see Rebecca in jail. Rebecca makes an announcement “I am privileged.” This is one of the reasons she thinks she deserves to be in jail.  But Paula told her friend that she may not have to be in jail long because she was able to get her a new hearing since Trent woke up and confessed to everything he did. Heather reminded Rebecca about her that being a rich white lawyer lady who plead guilty for dramatic effect which is gross. Exactly, that’s why Rebecca didn’t want to leave jail until her six week sentence was over.  She didn’t even feel like she was doing her penance right as she’s not helping the women but forcing her own story upon them.

Josh went to see a therapist who told him he didn’t have the disorders and his feelings are due to the choices he’s made in his life which he needs to reexamine.

Paula, Heather and Valencia came to the jail to pick up Rebecca when she’s released. At her “Your Out of Jail” party, Rebecca is encouraged to stop talking about her privilege and do something good with it to help people. Nathaniel arrived and asked to talk with Rebecca. He apologized for storming out of the courtroom and for being angry with her. He told Rebecca that he is glad she is out of jail. Nathaniel is happy that all the trial mess is behind them. Rebecca told him she meant what she said in the courtroom about making a difference. Nathaniel suggested they talk about it after they return from their trip to Hawaii. He called Rebecca silly and selfish; he wanted them to be happy together and accused Rebecca of overthinking everything and ruining every time they are happy. Nathaniel left and Rebecca returned back inside the house and told Paula, Heather, Darryl, Valencia and Hector that she and Nathaniel were in different places.

The next day, Rebecca returned to the L.A. County Jail.  The warden approved her idea to give the women free legal advice.  And maybe they will get to perform Cats.

The episode ends with Paula warning Trent if he didn’t wake up she would report him to Princeton and tell them to take back his degree. Trent proves he’s awake by correcting Paula and telling her that he went to school in Boston.
