Q) Tell us about the premise for “Siren” and your character, Janine.

A) “Siren” is set in a sea side town in the Pacific North West called Bristol Cove. History tells tale of mermaids coming to shore there and wreaking havoc on the community with their powerful siren song. Fast-forward to present day and audiences discover this may not just be an urban legend, but may in fact be true. I play the character of Janine. She is in a relationship with one of the fishermen in the town (played by Curtis Lum) and is a friend of Ben (Alex M. Roe) and Xander (Ian Verdun). Janine is a pretty straight-up, tells-it-like-it-is character. I’ve loved playing her! She’s very ballsy.

Q) What initially drew you to “Siren?”

A) Initially, I heard that there was a show being made about mermaids and that was enough to excite me. [laughs] And then I heard the mermaids were going to be tough, kick ass and scary and I was totally sold! Also, if you’ve seen the trailer it looks pretty damn good!

Q) What can fans expect in “Siren’s” first season?

A) Fans can expect a real adventure and a brilliant cast of characters and actors. Also, the finale has a huge cliffhanger. It’s going to be a wild wet ride!

 Q) Were you familiar with any of your costars before joining the series?

A) Yes, I am actually real-life friends with Curtis Lum who plays my boyfriend Calvin. So that has been fun! And I knew of Chad Rook (who plays Chris) and Tammy Gillis (who plays Deputy Marissa). I’ve also been a long-standing fan of Rena Owen having grown up watching her in the New Zealand film Once We Were Warriors. My parents are New Zealanders and I remember that film very well.

Q) What has been your favorite scene to film so far?

A) Some of the scenes in Episode 8 were a blast and also very moving to be a part of. You will have to watch to find out why! [laughs] We certainly got some good behind the scenes moments from that episode which the other actors and I will no doubt be posting on Instagram and Twitter!

Q) What are the challenges of filming a show like “Siren” compared to other projects you have been a part of?

A) I think any new series is a challenge in its first season. Everyone wants to make it the best it can be! And it can take a bit of time to find out who your character really is and how they fit into the overall picture/story. It’s a challenge, but I like to think of it more as an exploration.

Q) What do you think about the show will appeal most to fans?

A) I think the strong female lead characters will be really appealing to audiences. Also, the mermaids look incredible!

 Q) What have been some of your favorite projects to be a part of?

A) I’ve loved working on Syfy’s series “The Magicians.” It’s such a fun show with great scripts and so much imagination gone into it. I love being a part of it and I love my character Victoria. I also loved playing Calliope in the 200th episode of “Supernatural.” I also find it very fulfilling creating my own films. My newest film I’ve made is called Hunting Season and that’s been a wonderful experience

Q) As a part of social media, are you looking forward to hearing fan feedback to the episodes?

A) Yes!! I think I speak for the whole cast when I say WE CAN’T WAIT! Make sure you find us all on Twitter and Instagram if you’re wanting to tweet with us and keep up with our stories and behind the scenes, etc.!

Q) Are there any other projects you’re currently working on?

A) Yes, I’ve just finished up on Season Three of “The Magicians” on Syfy and I’ll be appearing in Season Three of the hit series “Colony” on USA. Also, you can catch me in NBC’s newest show “Reverie”and in the upcoming season of Lifetime’s brilliant series “UnREAL.”
