Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I would best describe my sounds as R&B/Soul with a heavy dusting of Pop.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I would say my biggest musical influences are Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars. I also take a lot of musical inspiration from Eric Benet and Chris Brown – but I could go on and on.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “What Turns You On.”

A) I released “What Turns You On” back in January 2019, and it was the song that really kick started my career – so it has a special place in my heart. I had no plans to re-release it, but my publisher said to me he thought I should send it to a DJ/Remixer called Dario Caminita that he’d worked with before, just to see what he could do with it. So, that’s exactly what I did. And when I heard it I thought, this is a BANGER! So we decided to release it and give ‘What Turns You On’ a new lease of life with this completely different take on the song. And the rest as they say, is history.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I couldn’t be 100% sure, but I think some of it has to do with nostalgia. The song has an old school feel, harking back to that mid 90’s R&B sound. Along with 70’s soul, 90’s R&B is my favorite era of music – and I think that resonates with a lot of people as well.

Q) What made this the perfect time to revisit the single?

A) I guess the answer to the question is, it was the perfect time to revisit the song because the remix sounded so damn good! 😜

Q) You recently released a remix by Dario Caminita. How did the two of you come to work together?

A) As I mentioned in the previous answers, it was my publisher that hooked me up with Dario – and I’m glad he did. Not only did he smash the remix of “What Turns You On,” we’ve also teamed up on some more music which will be released early next year.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I don’t need music to create lyrics, no, but the way I prefer to work is to have some form of music to write to, even if it’s an unfinished track. Then I can build the track along with the song, potentially adding instrumentation that compliments certain lyrics etc.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) More often than not I’ll have both hands in the production as I produce most of my tracks myself. And if I’m working with another producer it tends to be 50/50.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) I released a two track EP tilted After Dark on November 5th (2021) – and the plan is to release an album at some point next year (date TBC).

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) One of my favorite places to perform has to be the Jazz Cafe. The reason being is obviously because it’s such a prestigious venue, but also because it’s where I performed my first support slot, supporting Omar. I also recently performed at Boisdale in Canary Wharf. This venue felt significant to me because it actually felt like the first gig I’d done when we were properly out of lockdown.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) In dreamland it would have to be Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak as the third member of Silk Sonic!! 😎

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I recently been listening to an artist called Victoria Monet. I heard about her album Jaguar through a Spotify algorithm and have been digging every release she has made since.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s important because it’s a constant and consistent connection with the fans. It’s always nice to feel that love and as artists we can show our appreciation to our fans for the support they give us – because without them, music would just be a hobby.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I would like to say thank you. Music is my passion – and to share it with my fans and supporters is an honor and a privilege.
