This is not just a superhero movie! I must admit that although I am far from being a superhero movies enthusiast (mostly because I get easily lost in the ocean of characters and plots surrounding each one of them). However, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse managed to keep me glued to my seat for the entire ride.

At first sight, it seemed like a 2-hour long run for a movie of this kind could be a little “unnecessary” for the audience but let me tell you that there is not one minute wasted here. This animated movie picks up where we left off at Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse with our protagonist Miles Morales (brilliantly voiced by Shameik Moore) finally making amends with his new vigilante identity that this time pushes him into a bigger whirlwind of scenarios and situations making him realize the importance of what he has become and taking him through a tour across a number of dimensions where he has the opportunity to meet different Spider-people and other familiar characters.

This masterpiece has been skillfully directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson who have found a way to drag us through this multi-verse journey along with Miles. The use of computer-generated animation combined with the comic book style and brilliant colors make this movie a hallucinating and stimulating package. The fight sequences and transitions from one universe to another are so smoothly fluid and mesmerizing that you can feel as though you are just another character in it.

And to make all of this even better, the plot does not only surround heroes and villains, but it dares to take it one step further turning into a one huge emotional ride as we become witnesses of the characters exploration of the meaning of friendship, love, grief, loss and even parent/child relationships. Another aspect of the movie that we should not leave aside is the talented cast that accompanies Spidey star Moore such as Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Jake Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae and Oscar Isaac among others.

The story behind Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse proves that finding a way to yourself and realizing who you truly are at heart, is as easy as to take a trip across the universes. Please, do yourself a favor and go see it now!
