What would happen if you could change your potential just by reading a card? “The Big Door Prize” showcases what happens to someone if given a second chance to change their life. Every encounter makes you wonder how much influence one piece of paper can have over your life. “The Big Door Prize” takes you on a humorous, eventful, unexpected ride that provides insights into second chances.

As Dusty (Chris O’Dowd) celebrates his birthday with his family and friends, a new mystery machine arrives in town that can tell people their potential in life. Dusty has a hard time believing that this magic machine has the power to predict his loved ones future. He starts to see how these readings affect his students, friends and even himself. Even his own wife Cass (Gabrielle Dennis) decides to see what the hype and magic is with the machine. However, this makes Dusty begin to wonder if he ever really knew his spouse. With this, Dusty makes a rational decision in the middle of the night and seeks to discover what all the fuss is with the machine. As Dusty gets his results, you may be a little surprised by what he gets. Now, he’s starting to wonder about the potential in his own life all while dealing with the success of all those around him.

Josh Segarra and Chris O’ Dowd’s comedic relief are standouts in the show and highlights how much their characters cannot stand on another. Segarra plays Giorgio, a high school rival of Dusty and has a huge crush on Cass. Giorgio makes you laugh with the insults he gives to Dusty and the way he acts with the people around. Also, Dennis is clearly the heart of this show. Every moment she has with Dusty or with her mom (played Crystal Fox), she shines through adding her own magic to the show. Plus, directors Molly McGlynn, Anu Valia and Declan Lowney truly capture the nostalgia of small town life from the classrooms to the local bars.

“The Big Door Prize” highlights the significance of being happy in your own life and the doubts you may get when others around you are living up to their potential. It is a charming, laugh out loud and hopeful story about life and how you make the best out of it. This show reminds you of having a community that you are able to talk with and the ability to see your worth. If you want to start a new series that’s funny and navigates the importance of seeing the potential in yourself, then “The Big Door Prize” is for you.
