Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy) works on her dress in the fashion closet after hours and is thrilled when Richard Hunter (Sam Page) brings her dinner. Sutton kisses him and takes off his shirt, assuring him that nobody is there. As they end up on a chair, the cleaning woman (Caroline Fournier) walks in and freaks out upon seeing them.

The next morning, Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens) asks Sutton when she’ll get to see the dress and Sutton tells her that Oliver Grayson (Stephen Conrad Moore) needs to approve it first. Kat Edison (Aisha Dee) details the district she would be running for and lists her responsibilities if she wins. Sutton asks if she would have to leave Scarlet, and Kat replies that she hasn’t decided if she’s running yet.

Patrick Duchand (Peter Vack) leads the pitch meeting and Jane pitches a retrospective of Jacqueline Carlyle’s (Melora Hardin) best pieces to celebrate her ten-year anniversary as editor-in-chief. However, Patrick rejects the idea and assigns her to the date night column by going to a “rage park” with a group of models.

Kat asks Toby (Daniel Beirne) what would happen if she decides to run. Toby tells her the process and that she needs a platform that describes why she would be the best candidate. Tia Clayton (Alexis Floyd) tells him they’re still working on it and Toby tells her that they will be doing opposition research to figure out what her opponent would use against her.

Sutton sees Carly (Kiara Alondra Groulx) sitting at Oliver’s desk and discusses Jacqueline’s dress options for the gala with Oliver. She asks if Carly has been out of school all week, and Oliver explains that he can’t say no to her. He tells her to focus on her dress submission instead, and Sutton assures him she has a few remaining tweaks before it’s finished.

Jane smashes items at the “rage park” with the models and enjoys it. Afterwards, she asks the models what about their jobs makes them enraged and the models share stories of things they were forced to do on shoots. Risa (Morgan Kohan) comments that it’s better than working with Pamela Dolan and tells Jane off the record that a friend of theirs was so distraught and covered in bruises after a shoot with Dolan that she quit modelling.

Jane asks Oliver about Dolan, and he admits they haven’t worked together in a long time. He assesses that she’s heard about the rumors and tells her he’s heard rumors about everyone. Oliver warns her to drop the story, as Dolan will destroy her career to save her own. However, Jane declares that the story is worth it.

Kat tells Patrick about her intention to run for city council and he is excited about the idea and the content it will provide. He takes a picture of her and puts up an online poll for readers despite Kat telling him that she’s not sure if she’s running and that she hasn’t talked to Jacqueline yet. Jacqueline sees the poll and tells Kat that she would do well as a councilwoman.

Jane asks to speak to Jacqueline and tells her she has a story for the magazine. Jacqueline reminds her she writes for digital, but Jane is adamant that the story should go to someone she trusts. Jane tells her what she’s heard about Dolan and asks for her help in navigating the investigation. Jacqueline tells her she doesn’t have the time and resources for the investigation, but Jane tells her she’ll do it.

Sutton shows Oliver the dress she’s submitting, but he tells her there’s too much happening and none of it tells him who Sutton is as a designer. RJ Safford (Aidan Devine) visits Jacqueline, telling her that he’s going to introduce her at her gala and that Patrick believes the double issue should be reduced to one.

Jacqueline tells him that Patrick doesn’t make decisions on the magazine, but Safford tells her they want to give more money for Patrick for website videos and that Patrick is going to tell him his plan later. Jacqueline tells him that it feels like there’s something he’s not telling her, but Safford tells her he’s looking forward to her speech.

Toby tells Kat his opposition research findings, including her previous abortion. Kat comments that she thought her medical records were private, but Toby tells her that a message board post about the abortion links to her. He tells her she needs to consider how comfortable with any of the information coming out and let that impact her decision to run.

In the fashion closet, Sutton is upset about Oliver hating her dress, and Kat tells her and Jane that she’s rethinking her decision to run. Kat tells them the findings of the opposition research and they ask why they didn’t know about the abortion. She admits she didn’t know how to bring it up and tells them the story. Jane and Sutton offer their support and Sutton tells them she had sex on the other chair in the fashion closet the previous night.

Oliver helps Jacqueline prepare for the gala, and Jacqueline expresses her worries about her future at Scarlet. He asks if she thinks Patrick is coming for her job, but Jacqueline replies that she believes Patrick is coming for the whole magazine to turn it purely digital, believing it’s a matter of time before Safford approves it.

Sutton tells Richard that Oliver didn’t like her dress, but Richard is confident that Oliver will still write her a recommendation. She tells him she wants a recommendation based on her work and suggests that Dana Jacobs (Nicola Correia-Damude) write her the recommendation instead.

Jane runs past Andrew (Adam Capriolo), but Jacqueline lets her stay. Jane tells her she’s found a new lead in her investigation of Dolan and Jacqueline compliments her determination. Jacqueline tells her she should write the story on her own, admitting she’s worried about the future of the magazine.

Jane tells Kat and Sutton about her concerns about Jacqueline and Scarlet. Kat and Sutton advise her not to jump to any conclusions until there’s definite evidence of Jacqueline leaving, and Sutton shows Jacobs her dress.  Jacobs tells her the dress is muddy, telling her to try again and to not quit her day job.

Sutton rants about Jacobs to Jane, declaring that she’s not going to apply to the seminar. Jane tells her she can’t give up, and Sutton replies that she’s adjusting to the new reality. Jane comments that she sounds like Jacqueline and complains about Patrick assigning her a story about vaginal rejuvenation.

Kat meets with Tia, telling her she’s having doubts about running after the opposition research found out about her abortion. Tia tells her that she had an abortion as well, telling her about how she initially went to an anti-choice clinic masquerading as a crisis pregnancy center. Kat is surprised it’s a thing, and Tia tells her there’s a couple in her district. Kat admits she needs time to make a decision on her campaign and Tia tells her she has to do what’s best for her.

Oliver asks Sutton about the recommendation form, and Sutton tells him she’s not going to force him to write a recommendation he doesn’t believe in. He tells her he believes in her, but that she’s not getting in with that dress. Oliver advises her to rethink the dress and tells her she’ll have to take constructive feedback as a designer. She sends him the form, and he tells her to start designing. Jane sees Jacqueline struggling in her office on the way out.

As Jane, Kat, and Sutton prepare for the gala, Jane admits that she’s worried that the gala will end up being Jacqueline’s retirement party. Jane comments that Jacqueline seems resigned to her fate but declares she’s going to try and encourage her to fight back.

At the gala, Jane approaches Jacqueline and Ian Carlyle (Gildart Jackson). After Ian leaves, Jane tells Jacqueline that she’s been reading her old articles. She reminds her of an article she wrote about a roller derby team and how she was inspired by one of the girls who didn’t let a broken neck stop her from skating.

Jane tells her the girl is still skating today as she reached out to her. She tells Jacqueline that she asked her why she’s still skating, and that the girl told her that she loves skating, doesn’t care about the people who think she should stop, and that her fearlessness and heart make the team better.

Oliver tells Sutton that Carly wants to miss school, but Sutton tells him he can’t keep letting her skip. She tells him that kids needs rules and consistency and that Carly will eventually be grateful for forcing her to go. Safford introduces Jacqueline to the crowd and Jane tells Sutton and Kat that she talked to Jacqueline, but she’s not sure if it helped.

Jacqueline starts reading from her prepared speech but abandons it. She tells the crowd she’s scared of the changing media landscape and letting everyone down. Jacqueline explains that she was reminded earlier about how contagious fearlessness can be and that she has to continue to run towards what terrifies her and take a leap of faith. Later. Jane compliments Jacqueline’s speech, and Jacqueline tells her that they’re going to write the Dolan story together for the magazine.

Kat walks to a fake clinic as Jane researches Dolan and Sutton works on designing a new dress. Kat tells Tia that the list of things found in the opposition research initially scared her but suggests that it could be turned into her platform. She suggests that being forthcoming about her past could inspire someone and declares that she wants to shut down the fake clinics.

Tia does a dance of joy and a woman walks into the headquarters looking for Linda. Kat introduces herself as the candidate and wins over the woman by listing that she smokes weed sometimes, supports immigrant’s’ rights, and that she once had an abortion.
