WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

Suffering is a brand new comedy about the pitfalls you face once you go from happy long term couple to future bride and groom. Sinitta Monero, the show’s director, writer and co-creator set out to produce something using the talents of minorities that are all too often overlooked. The series stars Busayo Ige and Stefan Asante-Boateng as Layla and Aaron, the newly engaged couple who have no idea what they’re getting themselves into.

The episodes are short and sweet and definitely leave you wanting more. They’re the perfect mix of accurate and humorous, with ridiculous little conflicts that are so specific you know they’re rooted in truth. Each episode is more fun than the last, going from bringing out Snapchat to film during a private moment to the clever “three rings of marriage” that gave the series its name.

It was difficult for me to choose a stand out episode because each of the five available now are entertaining and shine in their own ways. The series’ third episode entitled “Tumbleweave” was the first to genuinely make me laugh out loud. Aaron going through all the unfortunate and occasionally gross places Layla’s hair has ended up around the house was a great moment. Learning the definition of “Hocus Pocus Engagement” in the fifth episode was another highlight and a phrase I think I’m going to adopt into my everyday language.

There’s a lot to love about Suffering with strong leads, an amusing premise and snappy writing that it’s a challenge not to be sucked into watching every episode in one sitting. Each one is about four minutes long, so there’s really no excuse not to binge and you don’t feel bad for doing it either. So far there have been five episodes released of the first season, making this a series you can expect something new from quite regularly.
